  • Q: What is tree pruning?

A: Pruning is the cutting or removal of branches or parts of trees that will improve the shape or growth of trees. Pruning is the most common tree maintenance procedure.

Trees that have been pruned as a preventative or corrective measure to remove dead branches, crowded or rubbing limbs, eliminate hazards and increase light and air penetration.

  • Q: What's wrong with tree topping?

A: Tree topping is the practice of removal of tree branches or tree tops so that they are left as stubs.

Tree topping is the most harmful practice and is done to reduce the size of the tree. Topping may be more hazardous in the long term and is very harmful to the tree’s health.

  • Q: Why should I hire a licensed contractor with full coverage?

A: Simple, protection! Accidents occur at any time; do you want to be the responsible one? With a licensed tree care professional, they will have a $1,000,000 in liability insurance, workers compensation, and complete vehicle insurance.

Make sure they have the proper coverage, don’t get caught unaware!

  • Q: Will you remove a large stump in my yard?

A: We will. Tree stump removal is done with stump grinding machines. They have carbide tipped teeth and will methodically grind the stump below the surface to around 12 inches.

  • Q: When should my trees be pruned?

A: Light pruning can be done at any time of year. Heavy pruning should be done from late winter to early spring. Tree pruning wounds will close faster before new shoots arrive. This will also help with insects and disease spores.

If you have a tree that flowers before the end of spring, you should have it pruned as soon as the flowers are gone. If the tree flowers after May, it should be pruned in the spring. For flowering evergreens, spring is the best time. And all conifers should be pruned during the winter to stop the sap from bleeding.

  • Q: When is it necessary to remove a tree?

A: Tree removal should be your last resort. Trees are one of your most valuable assets. Only a certified arborist should conduct a thorough inspection to determine if a tree needs to be removed.

Tree removal should only happen when the tree presents a hazard or is damaged beyond repair. There are other ways to improve the health of the tree.

  • Q: Do you offer 24-hour emergency service?

A: Yes we do. Tip Top Tree Service is on call and is equipped to provide an immediate solution.

When storms come through, the force of them may cause damage to the limbs or roots. It is best to take preventative measures such as pruning before the storm causes damage.
